Pretty & Polished Icon Collection: Part I

*Press Samples*

Hi everyone! Today I have a brand new collection to share with your from Pretty & Polished called the Icon Collection: Part I. Chels says that this collection is based on current female music icons.
From ChelsI chose these women because they are iconic and have made big impacts not only in music but in my life and the lives of others. This is just the first part of our Icon series. There will be several more collections in the future, near and far, to pay tribute to icons of all kinds.
This beautiful 8 piece collection is available now in the Pretty & Polished shop.

Rhythm Nation (Janet Jackson) is a thermal color changer that changes from a dark grey to a softer pale gray when warm. It is a holographic shade with holographic glitter as well as bright purple and dark gray micro flakes. Formula was very nice to work with and I used 3 thin coats for full coverage. This one stayed primarily in the warm, light grey state on my nails (due to my hot nature). The flakies in this are SO nice and pop well against the base creating a unique look.
From Chels: This nail polish represents not only the powerful black and white music video for this song but it also represents Janet. Janet is multifaceted. She has so many talents and abilities. Her music is powerful just like her and I felt she needed a polish that represented her power and beauty.

(Cool)

Express Yourself (Madonna) has a white base for Madonnas softness. It's also packed with sexy red and gold holographic glitters as well as rose and dark gray flakes. Formula was lovely to work with and I used 3 thin coats for full coverage. I adore this soft, feminie crelly SO much. The glitter mix is a bit different, but it works so well!

From Chels: When I think of Madonna there are a few words that come to mind. Soft. Sexy. Confident. Strong. I wanted to pull inspiration from the video but found myself gravitating towards the message and the woman herself. The message is simple, don't settle.

Genie in a Bottle (Christina Aguilera) is a thermal color changer that changes from a gorgeous soft teal to a pale pink when warm. It is also filled with a holographic sparkle as well as teal and pink holographic glitters to play up the changing colors. Another lovely formula and I used 3 thin coats for full coverage. Like Rhythm Nation, this one primarily stayed in the warm state on me with occasional glimpses of the teal. I adore the glitter mix in this one as well...SO pretty!

From Chels: This polish needed to be special. Not only does "Genie in a Bottle" make you think of magic literally IN a bottle but I wanted it to be representative of her charm, beauty, and good girl attitude. She started off young and had a cool and calm good girl way about her. She has transformed into an iconic powerhouse who can sing anything you throw at her.

Just a Girl (Gwen Stefani) is a bright blue holographic jelly with a purple/blue shimmer and color shifting flakes. This jelly starts off a bit sheer, but builds nicely to opacity 3 coats. This is such a rich and decadent shade and the flakes really work to add a lot of depth to it.
From Chels: I wanted to choose a song from No Doubt where Gwen really got started and made a huge impact with young girls. She was cool and everyone wanted to know her or be her. In the video for "Just A Girl",  you see a young Gwen wearing an outfit that was basically the opposite of the girl she was singing about everyone wanting her to be. I wanted the polish to represent that. It's OK to be a Girl who doesn't bow down to the standards put in place for her. You can be whatever you feel and still be beautiful.

Run the World (Beyonce) is a strong black jelly with gold and copper holographic glitters as well as some very interesting copper color shifting flakes. Great formula and I used 3 thin coats for full depth and coverage. I'm not a huge Beyonce fan, but this was my favorite shade of the collection. The gold and copper as well as the flakies swimming around in that deep base make for one mesmerizing polish.

From Chels: Beyonce is one of the best selling music artists of all time. If that alone doesn't sell you on her iconic status maybe watching a few of her videos will. The video for this song was incredibly powerful from the beginning. Females standing together in black and metallics letting everyone know who runs things. So much strength in that alone even without her having to say a word. I modeled this polish off of her presence in the video.

Set Fire to the Rain (Adele) changes from a red to a pale orange/purple shift with fiery color shifting flakes. I wanted it to spark interest with the person wearing it and those around them. Fantastic formula on this one and I used 3 thin coats for full coverage. I think this polish so perfectly represents Adele as a person because on the surface she seems like such a classic, demure beauty but if you see her in interviews she has a funky edge and hilarity to her that just bubbles out. Such a stunning polish all around! I also felt that this shade stayed "transitioned" on me very well so I got to enjoy the color change, which is rare for my hot hands which usually keep thermals in their "warm" state.
From Chels: Adele is one of the best selling recording artists in the world. And if you are familiar with her sultry voice you know why. This young woman has held her own with every album she has released. Her music is so easy to listen to and elicits so many emotions. Set Fire to the Rain is a powerful song. My interpretation is that of an unhealthy relationship needing to end and her finally doing just that. Anyone who has been in an unhealthy relationship can atest to the difficulty of walking away from someone you love knowing it's for the best. I wanted this polish to almost have a feeling to it.

Firework (Katy Perry) is a full coverage flake polish with so many different colors and textures. Formula was easily buildable to opacity in 3 thin coats. This polish reminds me very much of fall and I love the fun mix of colors going on. If you love flakies, this polish will surely steal your heart.
From Chels: Katy Perry is an artist that has really given a voice to the underdog. She has a very laid back kind of beauty and attitude but speaks to those who don't always have the words to express themselves. She speaks for them through her music and has really ignited a wave of confidence in young people that's hard to ignore. I chose this song because I feel like it is one of her most empowering performances. The lyrics push you to keep moving forward and find the light within yourself. The polish was made to match the color in not only her lyrics but the video as well.

Blown Away (Carrie Underwood) is a 3 part color changing polish that is blue when cold, green when room temperature, and grey when warm. It has the same finish as the very popular "Dusty Creme" line from Pretty & Polished. Chels chose this color shift to represent the different aspects of a storm all in one bottle. Formula was very nice to work with and I used 3 thin coats for full coverage. This is my very first time trying a 3 part thermal polish and it is so subtle and cool! You can see the gradual change in shades up the nail and it looks like a very well done gradient.
From Chels: Carrie is special because we got to see her evolve from being a normal country girl to an iconic country superstar. She has continued to produce singles that not only showcase her amazing vocal abilities but the good person she is. Her music can speak to you on a very basic human level and make you feel like she's just a normal girl doing what she loves. Blown Away is a very emotional song. The feeling of wanting things to just go away is an emotion I think we can all relate to at some point.
